Cartilage / Helix piercing experience - pain, care and healing

As many of you may know, last summer I had my left cartilage pierced.
I realised that when I myself was surfing the internet trying to find out as much as I could about
the process, there was a mixture of opinions.
Therefore, I thought I would I share my own story.

Firstly, I have a HUGE fear of needles.
Cannot stand them in the slightest. I was quite vary of getting my cartilage done
because of this.
I had my ear lobes done twice in each ear and all four of the piercings
closed up, caused me ridiculous amounts of pain and problems.

Photo taken half an hour after getting the piercing^

Was your cartilage pierced with a gun or needle?
I read a lot of articles online saying that needles are apparently safer,
sp I opted to go to a local piercing parlous rather than Claire's where they offer
the service with a gun. I was scared as my phobia
of needles was taking over, but the needle was only little and brand new.

Out of 10, how much did it hurt?
Honestly, actually getting my ear pierced was only around a 2, since I had
my ear frozen with freezing spray, I could barely feel anything.
The most painful part was when i was getting a gem fitted into
the earring. But even then, no more than a 6/10.

How much did it cost?
I believe the service usually costs between £20-£25.

How long does it take to heal?
The piercing takes between 4 and 6 months to heal fully, until you can take
the original earring out.

How do you clean the piercing?
I was told to use warm water with sea salt twice a day to clean my piercing, by using
a little cotton bud and gong around both the front and back. It is important
to make sure you dry it after cleaning, you can do this by using another dry bud.
Another way to look after the piercing, is to rotate and move it once every few days,
to make sure it won't be stuck in one certain place.

Despite me having numerous problems with piercings in the past, I have
had absolutely none with this one. Due to me having such long hair
I was worried it would constantly be tangling up but it's honestly thing like that.
I had to sleep on the side of my face for a fair while, but that was the only discomfort
Even though everyone has different pain tolerance etc, I highly recommend
this piercing angels.
